Pilots in Australia

Research activities in schools in Melbourne, Australia, focus on understanding the less-often heard, positive stories of refugee education. The pilot is conducted in cooperation with partners from Monash University. The selected schools are primary and secondary schools with a high number of refugee learners. Work is also conducted in some English Language Schools, which are introductory schools for newly arrived migrant children and young people in Australia.

In this pilot, TRUST aims at understanding the positive trajectories of children and young people’s school paths, and elaborating the ways in which children’s experiences of wellbeing, belonging and success are nested within site-specific educational practices. Data are collected by drawings and critical incident interviews with students, participatory ethnographic observations in schools, and interviews with the teaching and leadership teams.
